I can't view Frontpage's usage reports. How do I fix this?
This does work on some Unix based servers, however, a specific logging format for Apache is required. We do not adhere to this logging format. Also, a cron rotate is necessary. RotateLogs, which is what we use, will not work.

I changed my password and now nothing is working. Whats wrong?
Changing the Control Panel password does not change the FP password. When the FTP/SSH/CP password is changed for an account, the user name and password must be changed manually by the client in their FrontPage program. Log onto the subweb with the old password to make this change. To change the user and password for FrontPage login:

Go to the FP menu:

1 - Click: Tools->Permissions [Tools->Security in FP2000]

2 - Add: Name, Password

3 - click "Administer, author and browse.." radio button

4 - Click "Apply" and then "Ok".

To change the password:

1 - Click: Tools->Change Password [Tools->Security->Change Password in FP2000]

2 - Type in old password, then new.

Why won't my secure form work with Frontpage?
FrontPage and secure forms don't work together, insofar as we know. We have verified this with Microsoft.

When I submit a form I get a "resource temporarily unavailable" error. Whats wrong?
When you use FrontPage to configure forms to submit results to a file, you cannot use the same file the form is contained in to save the results to. You must select a separate file to store your results. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions.

Why do I get an error in Frontpage when I'm trying to use PGP mail?
Frontpage and PGP mail do not work well togehter. The easiest solutoin is to simply use FrontPage's own forms. Frontpage has the equivalent of formmail, and it is very difficult to use formmail and FrontPage together. Although it may be technically possible, instructions on how to do this is beyond what we offer in FP support.

How do I restrict file access?
Before following the directions below open the Front Page Browser by selecting open from the tool bar and the selecting open folder. The folder would be named after the IP address or what ever address was used to publish the pages to the web. This allows you to work with your page will it is on the Server. Then the security option under tools will no longer be greyed out and you can then select it and proceed with the the directions below:

If you want to restrict access to directories, you have to turn the subdirectories into SubWebs and use FrontPage's access restrictions

1 - Create the subweb by doing File --> New -->FrontPage Web .

2 - Select "Import an existing web".

3 - Choose a title for your web. Since you can only restrict access to a web that's on the server, be sure you change the path so that it is going to the Internet location. Click ok.

4 - It will start the process to make the new web.

5 - The Import Web Wizard will come up. Select "From a World Wide Web site". In the location box, put in the path to the specific directory, for example, http://$domain.com/members . This will get only that directory, and not the whole web. Click next.

6 - This is where you limit the amount of information you will receive. Unless you know your pages are more extensive than these defaults, just leave it at the default and click next.

7 - Click finish and wait a few minutes as the content copies over.

At this point, you have all your information in a new web. Now you can set up the restrictions.
1 - In the FrontPage Explorer, click on Tools --> [Security --> ]Permissions...
2 - Select "use unique permissions for this web". Click apply at this time.
3 - Click on the users tab.
4 - Select "only registered users have browse access".
5 - Add any users you need, and then click ok.

Why do the tables I made in Frontpage look different in Netscape?
Tables created by means of Front Page do not pay any special attention to the various widths adding up correctly, because Internet Explorer will interpret the table correctly regardless of the math. Netscape, however, will need the tables widths to add up correctly. This results in a page that looks great in IE being completely out of alighment in Netscape.

To fix the problme you must edit the html code. Add up all widths for a row and adjust to correct for total width equalling the addition of each column width.

What are some general rules for using Frontpage on the Burningbulb servers?
Here are some general rules/tips to remember when using Frontpage with our servers. Please also keep in mind that we do not support Frontpage. We do support Frontpage extensions but our support on the actual Frontpage program is very limited. For Frontpage help we recommend referring to the owners manual or Microsoft website.

Tip 1:
Build and save your web on your local computer.

Tip 2:
Some features of the FrontPage program may not work on our servers. For example, forms created and used with FrontPage cannot be called securely using a secure cert on our servers, the way forms built with perl can be.

Tip 3:
Some features of the FrontPage programs may not be available if you are using a program version older than the extensions installed on the server.

Tip 4:
When publishing, use one of the following url formats:
http://216.123.34.127 (publishing using ip)
http://domainname.ext (publishing using domain name)

Tip 5:
If you try to use a path to publish such as: http://domainname.ext/Frontpage/myplace. The program will be “confused” and this can cause many errors on your web possibly even disabling the site. Change the directory structure within the program itself and then let the
program “place the directories” when you publish.

Tip 6:
Saving the web site on your local computer is a good idea because if the extensions have to be removed and reinstalled the information for borders, themes, and various other FrontPage specific files will be lost from the server. If those files are saved using your FrontPage program on your computer then it is a simple matter to republish if the extensions are reinstalled.
